This winter, I have spoken with a great number of Charles County residents who engaged me in conversation on issues they care deeply about. The topics of our conversations were varied, but amid the diverse concerns and opinions expressed to me, one common theme stood out: a distinct sense of misgiving about the future of Charles County and the unresponsiveness of its elected leadership.
While I continue to find my work in the legislature tremendously rewarding, I share my constituents' concerns. For that reason, and because I believe I can make a positive difference in a new role, I made the difficult decision to forgo my bid for reelection and run instead for Charles County Commissioner President.
Many of you are already aware of my decision, and I am both gratified and humbled at the nearly universal expressions of support I have received. I am grateful for that support, and I hope I can count on you to stand with me as my new campaign progresses. In the meantime, please know that I am still your elected delegate and remain committed to representing your interests in Annapolis through the remainder of my term.
Over two terms in the General Assembly, I've made it a point to be accessible and responsive to your needs, and I plan to serve all of you with the same dedication and enthusiasm as your next commissioner president.
Delegate Peter F. Murphy
